What does Lymphatic Drainage do?

Lymphatic Drainage flushes toxins from the body through a calm and relaxing massage treatment. People benefit from lymphatic drainage to treat a wide array of bodily issues, from something as serious as edema (swelling) to something as cosmetic as wrinkles and cellulite. Adding lymphatic drainage to your health and wellness routine highly benefit those experiencing:

~ Stress ~ Weight Gain ~ Bloating ~ Hormone Imbalances ~ Autoimmune Deficiencies ~ Fatigue ~ Migraines ~ Digestive issues ~ Arthritis ~ Skin Disorders etc…

Why lymphatic drainage is so crucial for our overall health and well being?

The lymphatic system is what some doctors call the “unsung hero,” because it’s an imperative part of the body’s circulatory/immune system that's often neglected and glossed over in many medical programs, yet there are numerous, fairly common medical conditions that medical practitioners claim are a direct result of some failure of the lymphatic system.

Remember when you were in high school, and you learned that white blood cells are the good guys that fight off the bad ones in our bodies. Well, that’s essentially what the lymphatic system does! The main function of the lymphatic system is the production, maintenance and distribution of white blood cells called lymphocytes. Lymphocytes make up between 18%-42% of all the white blood cells circulating in your body. They provide defense against infections (pathogens) such as viruses, bacteria, fungi, parasitic worms, the spread of tumors and even your own body’s cells that become abnormal and develop mutations, or cancerous cells from a buildup of foreign substances and other toxins. Our lymph nodes (the checkpoint for these lymphocytes) play a major role in our body’s defense mechanisms against these harmful toxins that can lead to all these unwanted issues. Without this sort of screening process in our tissues, we’d actually get sick way more often. However, if we’re not helping our lymphatic system do its wonderful job, then we are potentially putting our bodies at risk of being open to all kinds of infectious disease.

When the lymphatic system doesn't drain the excess fluid properly, it builds up in the body's tissues over time, causing swelling and chronic inflammation (cellulite). A sluggish lymphatic system is also more prone to the aforementioned viruses, bacteria, and fungi.

For Women:

In females, the main sex hormones are estrogen and progesterone. The production of these hormones mainly occurs in the ovaries, adrenal glands, and, during pregnancy, the placenta. Female sex hormones also influence body weight, hair growth, bone and muscle growth and overall mood and well being. The hormones function under our endocrine system. When the endocrine system is off balance, this can lead to a host of issues in the female reproductive system such as anovulation (causing infertility), PCOS, fibroids, and several others. What many women don't know is that our endocrine system needs to communicate with our lymphatic system in order to function properly. So if your hormones are out of whack, chances are a clogged lymphatic system may be the culprit - it’s compromised and in need of draining.

Some ways we can keep up lymph clarity after a drainage session is:

1. Either stay away from or significantly cut down your intake of hormonally triggering foods such as dairy, caffeine, alcohol, too much sugar or overly processed foods, deep fried foods, really anything you KNOW isn’t good for you! :))

2. Intake MORE organic, alkalizing, and detoxifying foods such as dark leafy greens (cilantro, parsley, kale, swiss chard), natural aloe vera, turmeric, lemon, chia and flax seeds ... etc.

3. WATER WATER WATER - Try your best to HYDRATE. The lymphatic system is essentially all water, it needs your help with more of that fresh water to flush itself out as much as possible. So try your best to intake at least half to your full body weight in ounces of water per day!

Good luck on your detox journey, and I’m excited to see you for your next (or first) Lymphatic Drainage Session!
