Waiting Tables is a music video/song Sakinah Iman dedicated to any artist or entrepreneur who's ever had to have a job/hustle that paid for their ability to work on their true life's passion. We all want to do what we love for a living, so this project was purposely created for the frustration and struggle of all those who are not ever going to give up on their dreams, but are still fighting a good fight in making that dream a reality.
This video and song was also in support of the 2017 Raise the Wage Act where congress hiked the minimum wage for the first time in a decade. All it’s promotional hahgtags on social media included #RaiseTheWage, #FightFor15, #LivingWage, and #15now.
A WORD FROM THE CREATOR
I'm happy to be sharing this project with as many people as possible. It thankfully won 10 International and national Film Fest awards, some local radio competition awards, was featured in an Off Off Broadway Musical at the 43 Obie Award and Pulitzer Prize winning Theater For The New City in NYC called "Buskers The Musical," was shared on some popular blogs and also received 200K views globally on Facebook. It took allot of creativity and team work to pull it all together, so it's safe to say I'd be more than ecstatic and proud to actually see this project in an art/music/film festival.
Directing this music video was a crazy ride. Casting all my close friends and family, finding extras on craigslist -- mapping out this huge vision and then taking care of the tiny details like making food for props, buying fabric for designing costumes, fixing make-up and so much more, it was all serious hard work for someone with no large team or financial backing. This was my first time wearing so many hats for any single artistic venture ever in my life (up until Running Star.) But in the end, it was the most rewarding learning experience an Indie artist could have ever imagined. The final results made it all worth the true blood, sweat and actual tears. :D " ~Sakinah Iman~
